Gardening Calendar for March & April ;If you live in zone 3 or 4: it’s time to fertilize your trees and shrubs before they begin active growth. This is also a good time to prune trees. Don’t prune your spring flowering shrubs though, or you will lose the flowers. If you live in zone 5: you can start planting bare root trees and shrubs. This is also a good time to fertilize established trees and perennials. If your trees had winter protection, you can start removing it.
